home

I know it's been entirely too long since myself or Frodo have updated, and I'm sure you're expecting a valid reason for that...

Well....

We got the flat!

Basically, the entire reason for lack of updates is becuase Frodo and I were busy moving our copious amounts of belongings from our flats to the new flat, and trying to get settled.

After many a stressful hour, and thanks to Frodo's stellar negotiating skills, we managed to weasel our way into the best flat in Glasgow. Phew!

Yesterday, was our move-in date, and what a physically stressful (and painful) day it was. More and more often, I am reminded that though I may sometimes feel mentally that I am younger than my years, my body has this awfully painful method of reminding me that I'm much older than I try to be.

After a few hours of moving heavy things down 3 flights of stairs, and then up 2 flights of stairs at the new building, my knee was ready to detach itself, and come after me with a meat cleaver. I was in so much pain, and the work wasn't done, so I tried pushing myself. This was not such a good idea.

At any point, if I sit down long enough for my muscles to relax, I get all jelly-legged when I get up again. This is still carrying over til today, when I arrived at work then about an hour into my shift, I got up to get a cup of coffee and nearly fell over.

I feel like I don't have any muscles in my legs.

At any rate, our flat is lovely as it can possibly be, and because it's nicer than any place I've ever lived ever, I still am feeling like I'm merely a guest in someone else's home. I'm sure that in a few days I'll start feeling as though I'm actually in my home, but for the moment, I'm still tip-toeing around and making sure there aren't any water rings on the tables.

I am also happy to report that my room came complete with a dressing table, about which I am absolutely thrilled. After 2 years of doing my makeup and hair whilst sitting on the floor in front of a mirror, I can finally sit at a desk with a mirror and not worry about my trousers being covered in hair.

Sir Miles for the moment is off on a luxury holiday at Aunti Lokie's. She's agreed to take him in (and train him, hee!) until we get all settled in the new place. Bless.

Our first day in the flat, we three new flatmates had our first cup of tea in the flat together and revelled in the fact that our flat is lovely and we're happy to have finally moved in. After so much hassle it's been a complete relief to finally have the ordeal over with.

The day was filled with 'firsts', with me and the Swede doing most of them and poor Frodo feeling a bit left out. Such as, 'First to use the toilet in the new flat', 'First to use the vaccuum cleaner in the new flat' and 'First to make a cup of tea in the new flat'.

Frodo finally had his well deserved 'first' when he became 'First to set off the fire alarm in the new flat'. I'm sure he'll enjoy telling you exactly what happened there, but I certainly got a good chuckle out of it.

I'm glad I can finally have a chance to update you all and let you know that we've gotten the flat (and moved) and that I will be trying to update again in the near future.

Also, for those of you who were/are sending something through the post, please get in contact with me right away, as sending postal things to my old address might be a bad idea. But we can work it out.

Note to annoying people in library.

Please remember that a Library is where people go to study.

If you are going to laugh and giggle with your friends, then get OUT of the library.

For instance: I am trying to study. Therefore, you should shutthefuckup.

That is all.

Fresh

Another exam tomorrow, and I'm feeling a bit like my head's in a vice. Studied a bit today with Rue and Colinopolos and ended up feeling more daft when I left than when I went in.

Then I had lasagna for lunch and am feeling drowsy and in need of a nap.

I'm quite happy that I dont' have to work tomorrow, for I've felt like I've worked every day this week (which isn't true). However, Frodo and I have high hopes about finding out if we've gotten the flat by tomorrow which means that, post-exam, I can pack up my belongings and begin the move.

Hopefully.

Everyone seems to be talking about Disney World lately, (Bitka is a good example) and all of the sudden I'm feeling the urge. It's weird becuase I didn't feel the urge to go to DW when I was at DW.

Interesting.

Having drinks with the girls from work on Saturday and I'm quite excited about it. I'll give you all the details when it's done and over with, but I predict right now you'll all be wishing you'd been there ;)

It's quite fresh outside today...the rain has drizzled a bit, leaving a spring smell everywhere. Except in that one place on Uni Gardens where the mulch smells like something died.

Elsewhere, it's freshness.

It seems summer

I've been thinking lately about my tagline 'curious little yankee' and I'm thinking that it needs changed. Don't have any clue what to change it to, though...I'm completely tapped for imagination lately.

Two more exams left and I'm starting to feel some pressure. In addition to Uni stress, Frodo and I still don't know if we'll get that flat, and as time ticks quickly away, our residence is more and more uncertain. I admit I'm starting to sweat a little, and I know that Frodo's anxious becuase he needs to move out of his flat rather soon.

I've also put in my notice to vacate my flat, so I'm also depending on this flat to come through. Such a precarious situation, but the dice had to be rolled sometime.

After we move house, I'll start The Project...it sounds like a lot of fun and there are a lot of people on board. It'll be so nice to have a weekly get-together...summers seem to spread everyone so far apart. Not sure why that is.

It's gorgeous here today...the perfect sort of day to sit out in a beer garden, slowly enjoy a cold pint, and feel the warmth of the sun.

I was just told I sound like I'm from northern Ireland. Funny, that.

Project

I love a good project. Especially when it's my idea and not some primitive torture exercise assigned by some meglomaniac that calls himself a 'teacher'.

Oh yes..I have a great idea for a summer project. I'm hoping that a few of my friends will tag along and help me out...

This project, being dependant on how much disposable income I have, will hopefully begin after Frodo, The Swede and I have moved into our flat (the future of that is still unknown, but we're hopeful we'll get it) and I have spare monies again.

And all my dear readers, yes, I mean YOU, can all follow along in the progress of said project.

My idea is to, once a week, sample and rate a different pizza in Glasgow each week. The goal: to find the best pizza in Glasgow.

Now, I know many restaurants claim to have the best pizza, blah blah blah. I just am going to pretend I don't know that, or just not take their word for it.

I'll decide who has the best pizza. And each week I hope to update HC Reviews with my review of each one. At the end of the summer, I'll rate them all and pick a winner.

And thus, you shall all know where to find the best pizza in Glasgow.

Frodo, Red, Princess (who can give the vegetarian vote)...I challenge you to accompany me on the quest! Who's with me?

I do hope this works out..if not, it sure will be a blast anyway.

It's a revolution

My body is rebelling against me.

My lovely (lovely) Italian hand-made soap which Regan's mom gave me for Christmas has given me rash.

I am gutted becuase I love that soap. It is so nice...(I imagine that my sentiments about it will change soon enough).

My skin is on fire today. I'm seriously considering filling the bath with Jello or something equally as drastic.

Have an exam tomorrow...do NOT need to be itching like a primate.

*sigh*

Junkie

I've started the blanket for Moosie's wean. I'm not sure how many stitches it is across, but I'm seriously packing the needles. By the time this blanket gets long enough to be a blanket, I'm going to have a hard time keeping the stitches from dropping.

Ah, the challenge of it all.

I watched Fellowship of the Ring last night for the first time in about 2 years. I can't believe I've gone so long without watching it, but I did it on purpose and I'm glad I did, becuase watching it now enabled me to feel all the things I felt when I first saw the film. It was such a phenomena to me at the time, and walked out of the theatre imagining a world of elves and hobbits and beautiful people.

After watching it, oh, 100 or so more times after that, the feeling began to wear off a bit.

I remember that I got scared of the Ringwraiths the first time...same thing last night. Totally checked under the bed....

This is why I love movies...I love getting that feeling of being so involved in a film that for the 2 (+) hours while I watch it, I am completely in that world, totally absorbed by it to the point where my world no longer exists.

And when the movie's over, the longer it takes me to shake myself out of that world, the better the movie.

This is also another reason why the score so important, as I've mentioned before.

I admit that sometimes I get a bit cranky about the movie industry...drama queen actors, crybaby directors and especially when some bloody genius decides to make a perfectly lovely book into a movie for no reason other than to MAKE MONEY.

[Aside]
I know I've brought up this argument before, and I just want to say this/these:

  1. I don't have objection to any book-to-movie project. There are just certain books that are best as books and are so vivid they don't need to be made into a movie.
  2. I don't care if Peter Jackson is directing. He's a fine director. He's done great things with LOTR. I'm sure it'll be swell. Still this doesnt change the fact that I don't think this book should be made into a movie.
    [/aside]

So, I get disenchanted for a while; I say, 'Kiss my ass' and I dont' go see movies for a couple of months (not that I go that often anyway) and generally sit and grumble with furrowed brow while others relive their tales of movieland stardust magic.

But I always go back. I can never stay away. Movies and books are the ultimate fantasyland...and there was once a philsopher who said that we need fantasy, the unachievable dream in order to reach pure happiness. I don't remember which philsopher it was becuase I hated philsophy and have vowed never to take a course in it ever again.

I digress.

My point is that I love a movie that I can come back to in 2 years and still feel all the emotions I felt the first time. It's like when you hear a song that takes you back to 8th grade summer camp or something.

It's like a drug you can keep taking over and over again.

That being said, I cannot wait for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to come out.

that wasn't me

A very funny story to tell you about a friend of mine...we'll just call her Salima'....

Salima went out for drinks with her co-worker, even though she couldn't afford it (having put down £400 deposit on a flat that day). Co-worker said she'd buy all the drinks so Salima went along.

Salima then got so drunk that she had to talk to her friend, let's call him Froda, on the phone the entire way on the bus to keep from making the bus a very messy place.

Then, when Salima arrived at her friendly neighbor's flat, she proceeded to speak very loudly and proclaim over and over again about her drunken state.

She also ate all the chinese food Froda and Red had bought for themselves.

Then, in true classy style, she then promptly gave all the food back...if you know what I mean.

Then, after passing out on the floor for about an hour, staring at a 20p coin, she got up, prayed to the porcelain god once more before finally deciding she should stumble across the hall to be drunk and sick in her own flat.

Amusingly enough, after she left Froda's she no longer needed to be sick. I'll let you draw your own conclusions about the implications of that statement....

She fell asleep on the sofa until 6am, then got up and went to bed, whereupon, she only slept for another hour before she started feeling too ill again, and had to go back to the sofa to watch crap morning telly.

Poor girl. Sooooooo glad I'm not her.

The american, the glaswegian and a swede

Frodo and I have a new flatmate. Well, she's not a flatmate yet becuase we technically don't have a flat. So...she's a mate. Or something...whatever.

Anyhow, I'm not sure what Frodo wants her nickname to be in Blogland, so I'll just call her the Swede for now.

We're going to get a 3 bedroom flat, and the ones we've found online so far are simply gorgeous. Like something Mom and Dad would live in. It'll be nice to live in a place where real carpet exists.

Miles, I have decided, is a dog in a cat-suit. It's quite apparent that he dressed up like a cat for halloween, and then broke the zipper. So he's been parading around like a cat, when, really, he's a dog.

He growls at people at the door. He gives the postman a hard time. He sleeps at the end of my bed every night (whereas dodi slept on my pillow, my neck, my chest or my face), and stands guard.

He's an odd one...cat-dog.

x

Frodo did a hilarious thing yesterday, which I have to tell all about, becuase I theatened him that I would and he merely grunted a reply.

We were at a charity shop, browsing around (I was trying on jeans that took me back to 1984 and then promptly put them back on the rack), and Frodo found this plastic Mattell-ish pinball 'machine'. It wasn't a machine at all, but merely a big hunk of Fisher Price plastic. It had the plunger, and it had flippers, it had no lid or anything.

It was...so cheap. At any rate, Frodo tried putting his marble into it, pulled back
the plunger, let fly and his marble seriously went at mach 10 across the room and hit the wall. It didn't even try to curve around like a pinball should. It just zoom-zoomed.

Even funnier, was that Frodo had to try it again.

You know...just in case that first try was a fluke or something.

Hilarious
