These Boots Were Made For …

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 4:19 pm.

Sometimes complete strangers make you feel wonderful.

I have these heeled shoes that I love. Can’t walk in them for shit, but I love the way they look. Very stilish. They’re amazing with trousers that are just this side of too long. You know, the pair of shoes that make you decide you don’t need your slacks hemmed up a bit.

The shoes hurt when I walk on them a lot. I’m a barefoot kind of gal, so heels tend to make me a bit cranky and very tired after a bit.

So, miserable and knowing that I’m nearly home and can take the darn things off, a young dude on the bus says

“Love your boots, they really suit you!”

….

So my first thought was “so, yeah, I have some wine here, want to come to my place” but I opted for the very popular “Wow! Thanks a lot” and blushed my way out the bus door.

So yeah, all my thoughts about tossing the darn things in the garbage has gone. They now are back in their place of … well, at the top of the heap sitting at the door.

Lighter Shade Of Pale

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 3:26 pm.

I’m completely ignorant on the subject so I have a question.

Do daffodils come in different shades of yellow? In my backyard I have a grouping of regular looking daffodils (there was only 1 there last year now there are nearly a dozen), and in my front yard I have these three lovely pale yellow flowers that look strikingly like daffodils.

Since I don’t plant, I have no idea how they got there either. I’m not big on “flowers” I’m more of a plant person, but these are very very beautiful. I don’t want to pick them (mainly because I don’t know if they’ll be there again next year if I cut them).

So yeah, if you know, could you enlighten me?

Dog Days Of Spring

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 4:20 pm.

What a gorgeous friggin day!!!!

Oh man, what I’d do to be able to bottle days like these. Noticed a lot of people have puppies in town. Also noticed they’re all on the “dangerous breeds” list.

See, in our little part of the world, we (well, the official types) decided that certain breeds are no longer allowed within our city limits. This ban goes into effect er… July 1 I think. Sometime this summer at any rate. So, there’s an influx of puppies from these breeds.

I suppose of and itself that sounds stupid. Why buy a dog that won’t be allowed her come the summer? Well… the law is a grandfather one. You know… we won’t make you put your dog down if you own it before said date.

So essentially, for the next 10-15 years or so, these dogs will still be within our city. So, I ask… what the hell is the point to this law?

Don’t get me wrong. I agree the dogs shouldn’t be put down, I’m simply questioning the logic of law making. Which I suppose is a rhetorical question.

Personally, I don’t think they should ban any breed. But that’s an entirely different ball of wax.

Girly-Girl Days

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 11:00 am.

Princess and The Bean took me clothe shopping yesterday. This is akin to pointing a gun at my head. I dread these things. However, my friends are wonderful and it turned out rather well. I bought clothes I probably would never even looked at before, so kudos to them for helping me find them!

They didn’t force me to try on clothes I really didn’t want, but did nudge me to try things I wasn’t sure about. The best part was they didn’t make me feel like it was a huge waste of time. Most people would have gotten frustrated with me after 10 minutes. But these two… they not only made it enjoyable, they stuck with me for over 4 hours. That my friends is a feat and a half.

The best part was that I found the sandals I’ve been looking nearly a year for. I had looked in Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, Stanstead airport and here. That’s 5 countries. Not one of them had anything remotely like I was looking for. My friends made me go into a “sensible footwear” shoppe to look. I have a bit of a hang up with these shoppes. 1- They’re mega expensive, 2- Shoes there tend to lean toward things my gran wears. They must be making some changes because they had some really styling footwear. So yeah, I forked out more than the usual 5-20 dollars I generally limit to shoes, but I’m stoked!!!! I have walking shoes for my trip.

The only thing is that its made me re-think my whole “no shopping for clothes” hangup. heh

You scored as Latin. You should learn Latin! Though a dead language, Latin is present in science, history, English, and, of course, the Romance languages. Have fun with those declensions!

I’m not particularly intrigued by Asian languages, so Chinese being so far up the top strikes me as odd. Then again, given the questions and the options, I’m not surprised.

List 6

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 12:07 pm.

Gacked from Dusty, who gacked it from Xinher

Smoked your first cigarette?
I don’t remember how old I was, 6-7 maybe. I was really young and everyone smoked then. I remember it was payment for running to the store to buy the packet though.

Got drunk for the first time?
13, grade 8 grad night, in the change rooms at the local neighbourhood swimming pool

Smoked pot for the first time?
Despite my prolific drug use as a pre-teen/teen, I never actually smoked pot until I was 21.

Kissed someone?
Eric, during a kissing tag match in the school yard when I was 6. We could play games like that back in the day.

Made out with someone?
11 or 12 I guess. We skipped classes and slinked off to the mall and snuck into the bathroom.

Lost your virginity?
15, after a concert in the bar staff’s toilets.

Seeing it laid out this way, its no wonder I eventually got caught in a public toilet with someone. (which was probably the most bacchanal day I’ve ever had) heh

Decisions, Decisions

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 11:44 am.

My boss is now officially off for maternity leave and in the company’s infinite wisdom, they’ve granted me temporary authority. I was handed at 276 page report.

Now, I thought I knew a lot about the company but holy hannah… there are things I had no idea about. Restructuring is a very messy business. The thing that hit me the hardest was… that there is no way I have the skills to make reports like that. I thought I was capable of analysing data with the best of them, but now I’m not so sure. I’ve never claimed to be an expert with computers, but I thought, you know I was at least competent with certain programs like excel and word. Turns out, I don’t know shit.

What I considered to be some “expertise” has been completely and utterly deflated. The upside is, I did understand the report. Not sure if that’s going to be of any use to me though.

Now I’m the one responsible to figure out who is going to replace me while I’m off frolicking through the heather.

However, my immediate concern is what to have for lunch.

Spring is finally here! How do I know? All my windows are open… I am sooooooooo happy. My other clue was strawberries.

They are my ambrosia! I could live on them. They’re the only thing I’ve eaten all my life an have never tired of.

Well, I’m going to enjoy it!

Too busy for a word of the day.

When I Was Your Age…

Category: Uncategorized. Posted by drokka at 4:40 pm.

On Friday, my dad told me that he wouldn’t be able to give me many lifts to work anymore. They’ve changed his schedule. I don’t actually mind except for a few things:

1- I’d just begun walking home from work everyday to save some money. This was already 45mins-1hr of my day spent walking.
2- The bus would never get me to work for 6:30 even if I had the money.
3- I’ll have to wake at 4:15 at the very latest.

So, I should be wonderfully used to walking long periods of time by the time I land in Glasgow. The up-sides are that I guess I should be losing some weight and the weather is much improved and I’ll at least have a lovely tanned face.
