It has been a long and busy weekend. Friday we went to see X3, Saturday was a mega-birthday party, Sunday was Jon’s birthday and a Tigers game, and Monday was the Sterling Heights Memorial Day Parade.
X3: I found this movie to be incredibly disappointing. There were a ton of new characters, and it seems like they opted to develop none of them. The plot was plodding and there was no emotional resonance to any of the surprises. There were also a lot of odd errors (like when they were on the Golden Gate Bridge in strong daylight and then suddenly it was the dead of night). It wasn’t worth the price of admission, and it won’t be joining the first two films in our DVD collection.
Birthdays: Saturday night we had a bonfire/BBQ at a friend’s house. It was also a surprise birthday party for three people. We told Jon that it was for Mike and Therese. Mike was told it was for Jon and Therese. I’m not sure what Therese was told it was going to be anything other than a big Memorial weekend bonfire/ BBQ. The party was a success, with a 15’ stack of wood, super-soakers filled with gasoline (so crazy) and lots of food and beverages.
Tigers Game: Jon’s non-Star Wars friends put together a group to go to see the Tigers play on Sunday. Jon’s a life-long fan, so he was pretty happy to be spending his day surrounded by friends and sports. The day was terribly hot and sunny, and Jon is bearing sun burnt knees to prove it. Unfortunately, the Tigers lost. Oddly, that is a rare event these days!
Memorial Day Parade: This is a parade we did last year and had a lot of fun with. This year may be our last due to the number of troopers that nearly collapsed or did collapse. Today it was 91 degrees with 70% humidity. Out of the 14 adult costumers, 5 had heat-related problems, as did our only non-costumed support. So that’s 6 out of 15. I stumbled on the uneven ground, aggravated my already angry back, kept going, and fell again. That’s when I opted out. One of the heat/sun/humidity injuries was so bad that our friend ended up in the hospital for about 4 hours getting re-hydrated and treated. It was terrifying to see how ill she looked, and then to hear she was taken to the hospital. We all ended up in the emergency waiting room, not leaving until she came with us.
I think my bruised and battered self needs to get to sleep. A hui hou!
