it started snowing last night about 4, and somewhere around 10, we heard this huge “THUMP” accompanied by this weird “fwing”. I looked out the bedroom window, but didn’t see anything. The girls went right back to sleep, but I couldn’t. Something wasn’t right.
I got up and went downstairs, as the dog wanted out ~ that should have told me something was funny right there, she seldom goes out after we go to bed.
I flip on the porchlight, and where my car should be, there is a TREE.
(Uh oh…)
Old Dog goes on ahead is checking everything out, I find my boots and follow, tromping about in a full 12″ of snow to see if everything is okay. (12″ in 6 hours is a LOT of snow!)
The branch not only covers my car, but my moms truck as well. While I’m trying to see if the windscreens are intact, I hear this cracking & creaking above my head… I decided right then and there I wasn’t going to stay where I was any longer.
As Old Dog and I walk up the porch, there is a huge *CRACK* and the second branch comes down. We go look, but there isn’t anything we can do, so we went in to the warmth by the fire.
when I went to check out the 11:00 news, I discovered what the *fwing* noise was… we didn’t have any T.V. ~ the branch had taken out the cable wire.
Luckily, we didn’t really get much more snow after that, so it only took us 3.5 hours to clean the driveway up. And somewhat miraculously, there was no damage to either vehicle. The biggest of the branches actually landed in front and back of the cars. Chainsaw, hack saw and loppers, followed by judicious use of shovels…
oh, and we had to dig out the back door, the roof slid all at once this year. Normally, it slides each snowfall, but its doing odd things… so we dug from the outside after we had cleared the back gate…
damn. I’m TIRED.
needless to say, no one went to school/classes today. t2 and 3 had their bus canceled at the last minute because of a possible “powerline” across the road, (our television cable) so they stayed home too (HA! I needed to “drive” them!) ~ and are now playing “Dark Alliance” as a reward for all their help. I do think that if they hadn’t been home, I’d STILL be shoveling.
I’m going to have some popcorn, and try to figure out how far my classes went without me today.
or maybe I will just take another nap… ;)
