I know it's been a while, but I am knee deep in the end of semester
busy body activity.
Yesterday the kiln gods frowned upon me. Everytime you open a kiln, it's like a little present from the element of fire, you never know what you are going to get, and usually you like it, are surprised. I wish there was a way to film all the students running back to the kiln room hardly able to wait for the pieces that are still very warm to touch, to see what has happened and to have little conversations over it.
Yesterday, I took Michael because the pancake making set of bowls that I had made him were set to come out. And there they were in beautiful white and gold.... if only i had glazed them white and gold. The whole 'blueberry' thing should've hinted at the idea that I clearly chose blue and white. Alas.
Then, the other kiln that was bisqueing the greenware misfired and actually went over temperature and several pieces were lost. These were my better pieces. Kinda like a final exam for me.
Then the other kiln was unloaded and someone chipped one of my bottles at the rim.
My teacher saw that I was in distress and told me that you had to do a rice ceremony and a sacrifice to the kiln gods in order to ensure your kiln experience. Well if only I'd have known. I'm just the sort to sacrifice things to a kiln god. I may have liked sacrificing things to a kiln god.... If only I knew that there was something to appease.
I had to put my earphones on and try to avoid conversation because I was on the verge of tears for the whole of the three hour class.
And I've finished my rough draft of my english paper.
And I'm not taking courses this summer, although I plan on taking courses during the summer next year and so on, maybe I can knock this thing out.
