Katrina

They're in a crisis down South and I don't know how to feel or what to think. I feel nothing but sympathy for all those effected. So much destruction of property and loss of human life. And where are those countries to aid us in our time of need? I know some of them are still coping with the aftermath of their own natural disasters and can't give aid. Still there are many who could, but thus far I haven't heard of a single one willing to step up to the plate. I won't go into specifics but you know who you are. Shame on you! They say revenge is sweet. What goes around comes around sparky.

Happy Birthday Billy

It's been almost two years since the last movie of the Lord of The Rings trilogy "Return of The King" was released. I've met so many cool people as a result either online or through the first 'con' I ever attended in Toronto Canada. I traveled to Scotland this past summer in part due to the movie. It wasn't my sole purpose for going. Scotland had always been a country on my list of countries to see before I die.
One website in particular managed to unit people from all over the world and made them part of an extended family. That website being Billy Boyd's official website BillyBoyd.net It was blind luck that I stumbled upon his site so many years ago. The more I learned about the amazing and versatile actor, Billy Boyd, the more I wanted to be a part of his forum (sadly no longer in existence). Tomorrow (today if you live in Scotland, Mr. Boyd's homeland) is Billy Boyd's birthday. I invite you to join me in wishing Billy a very Happy Birthday!

Concerned

I'm concerned about a friend. She lives very far away. What can I do? I'm here if you'd like to talk. You sound so alone, and it concerns me you feel that way. What's happening in your world my friend? What's upset you? What can I do to help? So many questions...I'm concerned.

Family Reunion

Spent the day yesterday becoming reacquainted with some relatives I hadn't seen in years. The truly weird ones didn't bother to show up. I know most families have a few odd ducks, but dad's family seems to have more then it's fair share.
It was great to see my uncles, aunts and cousins.
Uncle 'Dick' still claims his missing index finger is buried somewhere out beneath Grandpa and Grandma's window. I learned in later years that he'd actually lost it in an industrial accident. I think in my youth he took great joy in grossing me out saying he'd lost it while trimming the front hedge and it landed under the bay window. I was gullible, what can I say.
Cousin 'Scott' biked to Michigan from Madison and plans to continue north through the UP where his destination will be Toronto, Canada. He tells me he has an apartment there and will stay a few months then plans on subletting the apartment for the remainder of the lease so he can move on to his next destination. He's thinking about biking across Europe. Maybe he'll find himself along the way.
Aunt 'Beth" is still single at 60 something and is living the high life with her two dogs in Arizona.
Aunt 'Jean' is still as enthusiastic as ever about praising the Lord Jesus Almighty. *eye roll*
Grandma 'Marie' is still alive and kickin at 91. She's slowed down some physically due to some arthritis in her knees but her mind is razor sharp and her dry sense of humor even better. She sure knows how to keep her 'boys' in line. I loved watching her ordering them about to do her bidding. You go girl!
Family reunions... gotta love em.

Could never happen to me

Got a suspicious email from ebay recently saying they'd cancel my account if I didn't update my account information. Sooooo, I clicked on the link provided and low and behold it opened a credit card information page. Right away warning flags went up in my mind so I submitted a bogus username (hahaha) and password (this is bull) and darned if I didn't get the reply "hello hahaha, please update your credit card information in the space provided". I knew this wasn't right so I copied the email and sent it post haste to ebay's customer support under the heading "spoof" email. In less then 24 hours I had a reply from ebay confirming that it was indeed a "spoof" email and thanking me for forwarding it to them for further investigation. I hope they nail the b*stards but I doubt it. People who send out those types of emails are to slick to get caught. Moral of the story... be wary of any email asking for personal information.

home again, home again, jiggity, jig

Tried to post this entry yesterday but in my infinite wisdom clicked on a link and lost it. Well actually it wasn't the links fault, it was closing the link that lost the post. *sigh* how blonde can one be? Anyway...
Got home and had the usual camping chores to tend to like laundry, cleaning out the trailer, unpacking and putting away unopened food, etc. Everybody wants to go camping, but nobody wants to help clean up after it. What's that all about? So it falls to me. That's no vacation in my opinion. Despite the god awful hot weather I still managed to have fun with family. Mom and Dad have an air conditioned RV so when I felt I couldn't stand another minute of the heat and humidity I'd escape to their air conditioned oasis for a respite. We had good times round the campfire at night regaling days of old. The wine/beer didn't hurt either.
Found a cool little shop in Fish Creek that sells olive oils and balsamic vinegars called "Olive Tree and Vine". Spent a small fortune in there. I love cooking with different olive oils. This place had quite a variety. Can't wait to make a raspberry vinaigrette dressing with the raspberry wine vinegar I purchased. I'm entertaining the idea of seeing how much it would be to buy into the franchise and open my own wee store here at home. The owner of the store in Fish Creek is an acquaintance of mine so I'm sure he would be forthright and honest with me about whether or not he thinks the venture would be successful. I'd probably have to secure a small business loan from the state, but that's putting the cart before the horse. We'll see. I'm making a return visit to talk with him in September. Until then I'll enjoy the oils and vinegars.
