Sounding Off!
There was an interesting article in our newspaper yesterday about area high school dress codes and why they aren't enforced. I went to a four year Catholic high school and we wore uniforms so other then the length of your skirt this was never an issue. I'm not saying one way or the other is better... and I'm not a prude but I've seen what gets worn to the local high school on a daily basis... can you say major distraction!
One of the reasons cited for not enforcing the dress code policy was (and I quote) "Enforcement of the school dress codes can be further complicated by opposite-sex teachers hesitating to approach their students about revealing clothing" Yes indeed a sign of our time. Can you say sexual harassment? If you think it's ok to tell a student of either gender that they're not dressed appropriately I'm here to tell you think again! I'm about to embark on a required course on sensitivity and sexual harassment training courtesy of my employer aka the school district. So why the hell have a dress code in place if it's unenforcable? Girls will continue to wear leather bustiers and boys their pants half way down their arse nobody is going to say diddly.

Turkey, Football and Family
So tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I'm spending the day at mom and dad's. Looking forward to a day of football, lots and lots of good food and plenty of relaxation. I wish the weather was more cooperative for the trip to the UP. Slippery roads and wind gusts of 50 mph are not conducive to good driving. Oh well take it slow and steady and everything should be alright. I'm making a really interesting baked sweet potato casserole. Most people add marshmallows and brown sugar, etc. when they make sweet potato casserole but my recipe calls for Southern Comfort whiskey and ginger (and brown sugar too). We'll see how it turns out. If it's not good there will be plenty of other food to eat.
Not sure I want to get up at 5am Friday morning to shop with all the other crazy people looking for early bird bargains. I didn't last year and I can't say I really felt like I'd missed out. My sister-in-law thrives on it! She loves the jostle of the crowded stores. She usually has most of her Christmas shopping done by the end of the day. I prefer to do as much Christmas shopping online as possible but that's just me. I hate waiting in crowded check out lines only to find the item you grabbed doesn't have a bar code tag on it. So you wait for the dreaded price check. In the mean time you're getting all manner of dirty looks from the people waiting behind you to check out, as if it's your fault the stupid thing doesn't have a proper tag. *eye roll here* Ah well one holiday at a time right? Tomorrow is Thanksgiving...Christmas... still 4 weeks away. Have a lovely turkey time.

Miffed
I'm miffed that my daughter misplaced her class ring. She has no idea where it is. She's sure it will turn up. I on the other hand am not so sure. That sucker cost me over $300! I know it's just a material thing but hell that's alot of money! She remembers removing it to strip the collage of pictures she plastered to her bedroom ceiling. So it has to be in her room right? Between the two of us we tore the place apart looking for it. No ring. So what do I do? Keep looking? Make her pay me for it? Just forget about it and move on? What? I'll be miffed no matter what.
